Hello, I’m Lydia
For years, I was simply the person relying on complementary therapies to keep the wheels from falling off. Whether I was using reflexology to survive a stressful month at work or osteopathy to put myself back together after a car crash, I viewed health as something to ‘fix’ so I could keep pushing forward.
The lightbulb moment
Everything changed twenty years ago when I sat in a Kinesiology session as a case study. I was blown away. Without me saying a single word, the practitioner pinpointed to exactly why I felt ‘off’ just by checking my muscle responses. It was my first real glimpse into the fact that the body can communicate and that lasting change doesn’t come from fixing the symptom but from looking at the body as a whole and finding the source of the issue. By addressing emotional uncertainties, I was able to relieve gut issues that had plagued my entire working life.
Translating the body for the real world
I eventually swapped a career in marketing for a Diploma in Systematic Kinesiology and qualifications in Anatomy, Physiology, and Nutrition, setting up Nalu Kinesiology in my garden studio.
I’m often asked where the name Nalu came from. I have always loved water and feel a real pull to the ocean. It allows me to gain perspective, a sense of calm and it re-energises me. A name linked to the ocean felt a natural place to start and when I came across the meaning of ‘Nalu’ it felt like a natural fit to me and what kinesiology can offer.
When I started to study Kinesiology I spent most lessons in awe of what the body could communicate. This made me realise just how disconnected I was with its language. When explaining it’s process, I could see the skepticism in even the most well meaning faces (even my own at times!). But the results spoke for themselves. At its heart, it is a practical tool that helps us understand the language of our own bodies and minds. My goal is to demystify this process and make it accessible to everyone, whether you are a long-time believer in complementary therapies or a total cynic who just wants to feel better.
Finding your inner flow
I’m here to help you be in the best possible shape to navigate life’s ups and downs. I provide a gentle, non-judgmental space to help you understand why your body is whispering (or shouting) for attention.
You’ll leave my garden treatment room not just feeling balanced, but with a better understanding of yourself and practical tools to handle what life throws at you. As Jon Kabat-Zinn said, “You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf”.
